Kids make cards for injured officer

Kids make cards for injured officer: Many children who live near where a Dallas police officer was shot have been worried about him. So on Thursday their teacher helped them put their thoughts on paper.

Art from Lake Highlands High School 2012 summer program

The class was called, The Me Nobody Knows", a six-week program developed by Evan Cleveland at The Writer's Garret in Dallas. Course Description: “The Me Nobody Knows” is a creative exploration of the self, using texts from literature—both classic and contemporary, selections of visual artworks, and visual arts/writing exercises for students to write about (and discover) who they are. Students will begin simply, with a more straightforward form of expression of who they are, and the thematic elements will be more simplistic as well, dealing with a more typical expression of the self, though from a slightly different angle. As the lessons progress, students will dive more deeply and abstractly into themselves, their experiences, and their imaginations, and they will create poster-sized art pieces that reflect that exploration. The young woman, Ruth, who wrote this had immigrated to Dallas from Ethiopia.
